The short answer
Do you need a permit for tile in Jupiter?
Not for tile alone. The Town of Jupiter's exemption list covers tiling with no plumbing or electrical work, but replacing a shower or a bathtub isn't exempt and needs a permit. Jupiter Farms goes to Palm Beach County, and Tequesta and Jupiter Inlet Colony run their own building departments. Top Design Tile checks your jurisdiction and handles the permit when the job needs one.

Sound familiar?
- Our condo wants cork under any tile, inspected before it's set.
- We want marble that's installed as carefully as it was picked.
- Will the new flood maps change what we can put down?
- The board wants a deposit, elevator pads and fixed hours.
- The last installer didn't line up the veining.
Jupiter, Palm Beach County
Clubs, condos and the Loxahatchee.
Jupiter's housing runs from Jonathan's Landing and Admirals Cove, built in the 1980s, to Abacoa, begun in 1997, with a median build year around 1990 and condos along the Intracoastal and the inlet.
Homes like these lean toward natural stone and large-format porcelain, where the layout and the setting decide how the room looks more than the material does.
Jupiter incorporated in 1925 and is the northernmost town in Palm Beach County. Housing ranges from gated club communities like Admirals Cove and Jonathan's Landing to the Abacoa town center and rural lots in Jupiter Farms.
How we do it in Jupiter
Tile installation in Jupiter, step by step.
Find the right office first
Town of Jupiter, Palm Beach County for Jupiter Farms, or Tequesta or Jupiter Inlet Colony with their own departments. The address decides it, and we check before we quote.
Meet the condo rules to the letter
Some Jupiter buildings name the underlayment, require an inspection of it, cap work hours or ask for a deposit and elevator pads. Whatever yours says goes into the schedule.
Lay the stone out dry
Marble and travertine get laid out across the room before they're set, so veining flows from piece to piece and no slab with a flaw ends up in the middle of the floor.
Mortar where water can reach
Below the flood level, tile goes down in thinset mortar, the setting FEMA rates as flood-resistant, never on organic adhesive.
Flat enough for big formats
Large porcelain panels and stone show every high spot. The substrate gets ground and leveled until a straightedge says the tile will sit flat.

- Veining matched across large tiles

Patterns & accents
Herringbone, hex, and the bold ones.
- Herringbone and chevron
- Hexagon and mosaic
- Geometric and 3D accent walls

Florida conditions
Built for the humidity it lives in.
- Flat substrate before large tiles
- Grout chosen for the room
- Movement joints where slabs need them
Before you call
Tile installation in Jupiter: the details.
What Jupiter condo associations ask before tile goes down
Florida's building code sets a minimum impact sound rating of IIC 50 for floors between units, and Jupiter associations add their own rules on top. One oceanfront building requires cork underlayment under upper-unit tile and inspects it before the tile goes down. Another requires floors to be well padded with sound-reducing material and limits work to weekdays from 8 to 6. A third sends every interior renovation through its architectural review board, with a deposit and elevator pads for tile deliveries.
Your building's documents decide which of those apply. We read them before pricing, because a required underlayment changes both the cost and the floor height at the door.
On site, the order never changes: approval, underlayment, inspection if the rules ask for one, then tile.
Permits in Jupiter, Jupiter Farms, Tequesta and the Colony
Inside town limits, the Town of Jupiter's exemption list covers tiling that involves no plumbing or electrical work, and swapping fixtures on existing lines, except that it specifically leaves out water heaters, bathtubs and showers. Replace a shower and you need a permit.
Jupiter Farms is unincorporated, so Palm Beach County's building division handles it; the county's own list includes removing and replacing ceramic tile among the jobs that need no permit. Tequesta and Jupiter Inlet Colony are separate towns with their own departments.
Florida's 2026 under-$7,500 permit exemption doesn't help here. Palm Beach County's building division says it doesn't apply in the county, because the whole county is designated a flood hazard area.
Tile and Jupiter's new flood maps
New FEMA flood maps took effect in Jupiter on December 20, 2024, and some homes along the Loxahatchee River and the Intracoastal changed zones. If your ground floor sits below the base flood elevation, the material and the setting method matter.
FEMA's Technical Bulletin 2, updated in January 2025, rates ceramic and porcelain tile set in mortar as acceptable below that elevation, and the same tile set in organic adhesive as unacceptable. Natural stone with waterproof grout is in the acceptable group too.
So a flood-zone ground floor in Jupiter gets mortar-set tile over a sound base, whether it's porcelain, marble or a wood-look plank. If a big remodel is part of the plan, the 50% substantial improvement math gets done before design starts.
| What the building may require | What we do about it |
|---|---|
| Architectural review approval for interior renovations | Submit the scope, insurance and schedule with you before any tile is ordered |
| A named underlayment, like cork, inspected before tile | Install it, then hold the tile until the inspection is signed off |
| Floors padded with sound-reducing material | Match the mat to the rule and give the board its tested rating |
| Work limited to set weekday hours | Schedule demolition and cutting inside those hours |
| A deposit and elevator pads for deliveries | Book the elevator, pad it and bring materials up in the allowed window |

Can you install marble or travertine in Jupiter?
Yes. Natural stone gets laid out dry and blended across the room before it's set, then sealed, and you'll know how often to reseal your particular stone.
Do the new flood maps change what tile I can use?
If your floor is below the base flood elevation, set the tile in mortar. FEMA rates mortar-set tile as flood-resistant and tile on organic adhesive as not.

The Town of Jupiter Building Department inside town limits. Jupiter Farms is unincorporated Palm Beach County, and Jupiter Inlet Colony and Tequesta are separate towns.
How are Town of Jupiter permit fees calculated?

Lit niches, floating vanities with light underneath, mirrors that glow from behind. It shows up in our favorite rooms because it gets drawn into the tile layout, not added after the wall is done.
