Custom backsplash · Treasure Coast, FL
Custom backsplash installation on the Treasure Coast, FL, the most looked-at tile in the house.
A backsplash is a few square feet that everyone sees. It gets laid out around the outlets, the window and the hood before the first tile goes up, so the pattern is centered and the cuts land at the edges.
- Mosaic
- Subway
- Herringbone
- Slab-look
- Travertine
- Graphite porcelain
- Marble-look porcelain
- Onyx-look
- Herringbone wood-look
- Granite & quartz

Layout
Centered on the range, cut at the edges.
The pattern starts at the focal point, usually the range or the sink, and works out from there. Outlets and switches get planned into the grid so a cover plate never sits on a sliver of tile.
- Pattern centered on the focal point
- Outlets planned into the layout
- Clean edges at cabinets and windows

Materials
Mosaic, subway or one big slab.
Marble mosaics and handmade-look subway add texture. Herringbone adds movement. A slab-look porcelain backsplash, carried up from the counter, reads like one piece of stone with almost no grout.
- Marble and glass mosaics
- Subway and herringbone
- Slab-look porcelain

Finish
Grout chosen with the counter in the room.
Grout that matches the tile disappears; grout that contrasts makes the pattern the feature. It gets decided with your counter sample on the wall, not from a chart.
- Grout matched or contrasted on purpose
- Sealed where the tile needs it
- Edge trim to match the fixtures

Shower walls · Backsplash
- Good for
- A moody shower or backsplash that hides water spots. Long subway shapes stretch a narrow wall.
- Watch out for
- Handmade-look edges vary piece to piece, so the grout joint is wider. That's part of the look.

Can a new backsplash go in without replacing the counters?
Yes, as long as the counters are staying. The old backsplash comes off, the wall gets repaired and flattened, and the new tile goes up.
How high should a backsplash go?
Up to the upper cabinets is standard. Taking it to the ceiling, or behind open shelving, turns the wall into the feature, and it's worth it behind the range.
Which backsplash is easiest to clean?
Larger tiles and slab-look porcelain mean less grout. Mosaics have more grout lines, so a stain-resistant grout helps.
