Permits in St. Lucie County

Three permit offices, one county.

In St. Lucie County, who issues your permit depends on the parcel, not the mailing address. Port St. Lucie (including Tradition and St. Lucie West) has its own building department, Fort Pierce has its own, and the unincorporated areas, like Lakewood Park and White City, go to St. Lucie County Building and Code Regulation.

Plenty of finish work, like new tile over sound surfaces or a new countertop, needs no permit at all under the Florida Building Code. Moving plumbing or walls does, and we find out which office handles yours before the schedule is set.

  • City of Port St. Lucie Building Department

St. Lucie West is a planned community inside Port St. Lucie, so the city's Building Department issues permits. Your HOA and the St. Lucie West Services District are separate from the permit process.

  • City of Fort Pierce Building Department

Inside city limits, the City of Fort Pierce Building Department issues permits. Lakewood Park, White City and Indian River Estates carry Fort Pierce addresses but are unincorporated, so those go to St. Lucie County Building and Code Regulation.

Very attentive to detail and very reasonably priced. I was surprised with the results considering estimates were given to me from other vendors at twice the price. Would hire them again.

My address says Fort Pierce. Is my permit from the city or the county?

Only homes inside Fort Pierce city limits permit with the city. Lakewood Park, White City and Indian River Estates carry Fort Pierce addresses but are unincorporated, so they go to St. Lucie County.

Is Tradition part of Port St. Lucie?

Yes. Tradition and St. Lucie West are both inside Port St. Lucie city limits, so the city's Building Department issues permits there.
